ONE CUP TEAPOTS SERIES I

ONE CUP TEAPOTS SERIES II

TEAPOTS 1979 — 1985

I designed the One Cup Teapot in 1979 after seeing a teapot at the original Peet’s Coffee at Oxford and Vine in Berkeley. Alfred Peet had traveled to Japan, and the airline served tea in a small plastic teapot that used its cup as a lid. In 1984 I redesigned it as a taller version. I treated the surface of the teapots as a canvas and explored different ways to pick out parts of the forms with color and texture. I used stains in a porcelain slip for color and a fragment of antique lace as a stencil for texture. I made them until 1985.
